WALT: use Comic Book to show what we have been doing.


From the Journal of Jack Simpson

Shrapnel Valley, Gallipoli

30 April 1915

I am Jack Simpson and I am very upset because my

best friend died because I could not make it to him in

time.

Yesterday I found a donkey and I named him Duffy.  We

get to the hurt soldiers much faster so the people do not

die.  As we were walking along the rocky, bumpy path to

get a soldier I heard a scream from nearby.  We found

an injured soldier who was my friend from school.  He

rode on my donkey and I supported him.  When we got

back down there were no stretchers left for my friend

and no doctors ready to help him so he died. I feel so

sad, he is the last friend I have.  At night he would cry to

himself, he felt so lonely and afraid.

As I roll around on the ground to get comfortable I think

how upsetting the war is.

Maths



We are learning to solve addition and subtraction problems in lots of different ways. We play group box games to help us practice this.



Discovery

I am showing the Key Competency 'Managing Self'  by  helping clean up. 






Term 3

WRITING

We are learning to : write a recount.
We can do this when we: record our idea's in order, include our senses, use interesting words, check our writing and use punctuation correctly.








My next step is to: use punctuation correctly in my writing and check my spelling.


READING

We are learning to : identify sounds in words.
My next step is to: apply this knowledge to my reading and writing.




MATHS

We are learning to : use repeated addition to solve multiplication problems.




Writing

I am learning to: Write to persuade.

I can do this when I can:
- Make a statement.
- Give reasons to back up my statement.
- Use punctuation correctly.
- Check my writing.


My next step is to: add more detail.


Writing Term 2

We are learning to : write a recount
We can do this when we can: include an introduction, record our idea's in order,
talk about our feelings, use interesting words.
 
At the bottom of my writing I have drawn symbols to show
something I can do well and my next learning step.
I have highlighted in green something I have done well in my writing.
I have highlighted in orange something I need to work on in writing.

Maths term 2

We are learning to use directions.
We can do this when we can give and follow directions using the points of a compass - North, South East and West.

Room 2 went outside and did a treasure hunt in pairs. One person hid the treasure. They then had to give their partner instructions to find it. E.g 2 steps north... It was a fun way to practice what we had been learning in class.

Our next learning step is to identify and use other directions such as north-east, south-west etc.


Term 1 maths



We are learning to:  identify the chance of an event occurring.
Student Comment : the story certainly will have a sun in it because the story is about a sun.

Term 1 reading

We are learning to identify what a good reader does.
Student comment: A good reader talks about how characters are feeling.

I am learning to: play the recorder
I can do this when I can: play in time, play notes, play a tune.
Teacher comment: You can now play some notes on the recorder. Your next step is to practice the notes you know and make up your own tunes.


T1 writing

We are learning to: write a description

We can do this when we can: include interesting words, write sentences that make sense,  use describing words  and edit our work.




Teacher comment: 
You have added lots of detail to you description and it is interesting to read.
Your next step is to use capital letters in the right places.

Term 1 Art Attack

I am learning to sketch and paint.

I can do this when I can use a range of drawing  techniques, use different paint strokes, mix paint colours, and outline a painting.

Teacher comment: You have mixed colours to bring out detail in your painting.

Mackenzie knows a good reader will read on when they get stuck on a word and by reading on it will help them to work out what the word might be.

Term 4 Discovery



I enjoy Discovery lots because its lots of fun. My favourite activity is Jump Jam. I use the key competency thinking when I am there as you have to think about doing the right moves. It is awesome.
